Epidemiological Situation Unstable, Presribed Measures to Be Respected

The epidemiological situation in Niš is unstable due to the appearance of a new omicron strain of coronavirus with a possible tendency to worsen the overall situation, concluded the Expert Operational Body of the City Team for the Response to Emergency Situation based on the opinion and report of the Institute of Public Health in Niš and a comprehensive analysis of the current situation. At this morning’s meeting, which was attended by Niš City Mayor and the commander of the City Team for the Response to Emergency Situation, Dragana Sotirovski, it was pointed out that the number of infected people has slightly increased since December 24 this year. The reason for the slight increase, according to the Expert Operational Body, is the frequency of gatherings with relatives and friends, pre-holiday celebrations and pre-holiday mood, and thus relaxation in terms of compliance with coronavirus protection measures. Maximum caution is necessary during the gathering for the New Year and Christmas holidays and strict compliance with all prescribed epidemiological measures in force, is the appeal of the Expert Operational Body to the population in order to preserve their own and the health of their loved ones.

Members of the Expert Operational Body pointed out that the vaccine was the only effective way to defend against the coronavirus, and called once again for vaccination of all those who have not been vaccinated yet. The vaccination point in the central facility of the City Health Care Center will also be open during the holidays, on January 1 and 2, from 7:00 AM to 1:30 PM, and on January 3 and 7, from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The Covid out-patient clinics will be open every day from 7:00 to 20:00 during the holidays. Members of the Communal Militia and communal wardens will monitor the compliance with epidemiological measures on New Year’s Eve and on holidays, and take the necessary actions within their competence.
