Car Free Day

As part of the European Mobility Week the Car-Free Day event was held on main city square by closing the streets leading to and from the main city square and leaving them to pedestrians, the youngest citizens and athletes for a few hours. Niš joined the event and in this way we remind and point out the importance of preserving the environment and preserving health, said the Assistant Mayor Vladislava Ivković. She added that with the reconstruction of main city square the pedestrian zone was expanded and significant funds were allocated for the construction of bicycle paths. This year’s message is „Let’s move sustainably. Let’s stay healthy.“ European Mobility Week is the European Commission’s flagship awareness-raising campaign on sustainable urban mobility. It promotes behavioral change in favour of active mobility, public transport, and other clean, intelligent transport solutions. With more towns and cities joining every year, and with its huge media appeal, the campaign is widely recognized as a driving force towards sustainable urban mobility in Europe and beyond.
