The Day of Liberation of Niš from the Turks was marked with special session of the Assembly of the City of Niš in the St. Sava Home and the laying of wreaths at the Monument to the Liberators. At the special session of Niš City Assembly Niš City Mayor Dragana Sotirovski and the President of the Niš City Assembly Boban Džunić presented the highest city recognition, the Award „11. January “ to doctor Milan Lazarevic, 63rd Parachute Brigade, Center for Social Work St. Sava Niš and the Business Club Naisus. The winner of the highest recognition of the City of Niš is also the celebrated football player and selector of the Serbian national football team, Dragan Stojković Piksi.
Niš City Mayor Dragana Sotirovski congratulated the winners of the highest city award and said that it would be good if the time ahead of us is the time of our unity, greater understanding and respect, and not a time of division. „It is one of the most important lessons we could learn from the past, which we remember every year on this day,“ she pointed out. She pointed out that the results of the awarded individuals and teams were the best promoters of Niš in the country and abroad. The President of the City Assembly Boban Džunić stated that we were marking an important date from our glorious past and expressing admiration for the libertarian tradition, but also readiness to learn from it and find strength in it to survive and last.
The delegations from the City of Niš, the Serbian Army, the Nišava Administrative District, the Niš Police Administration, representatives of the Serbian-Russian Humanitarian Center, delegations from the city municipalities of Mediana, Pantelej, Palilula, the Red Cross and Niška Banja and the representatives of Niš associations that nurture the tradition of liberation wars laid wreaths at the Monument to the Liberators.
