Niš Is Becoming the Most Important Crossroads of Serbia and the Balkans

The agreement was signed on the construction of the first phase of the Peace Highway towards Merdare on the section Merošina – Merošina 1 and the beginning of works on modernization and rehabilitation of Niš-Brestovac railway Corridor 10 was marked in the presence of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Donje Medjurovo. Niš is becoming the most important crossroads of Serbia and the Balkans. The event of exceptional importance for Niš was attended by Niš City Mayor Dragana Sotirovski, and her associates. The agreement between the Public Company Corridors of Serbia and the Strabag Consortium on the construction of the first phase of the Peace Highway on the section Merošina – Merošina 1 was signed in Donje Medjurovo in the presence of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and European Commission President Ursula von der Layen. The section Merošina – Merošina 1 is part of the future highway Niš-Pločnik-Merdare. Symbolically, by pressing a button, the works on the modernization and rehabilitation of the Niš-Brestovac railway were marked by President Aleksandar Vučić and the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. Today is an important day for Serbia, because the construction of the Niš-Merošina highway, as well as the modernization of the Niš-Brestovac railway, are huge changes for the better, and the visit of European Commission President Ursula von der Layen on that occasion is historic, President Vučić pointed out. „A 23-kilometer railway is being built in Donje Medjurovo, which will be 75 percent financed by the European Union. It is a huge amount of money for us, a great incentive. This railway and the road are important for us, they are important for Europe. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Mrs. Ursula von der Leyen for coming to Niš today, which is becoming our center, the center of all Balkan corridors, the Balkan crossroads, „said President Vučić, adding that Serbia is fully committed to implementing EU-sponsored agreements.  „Niš is becoming very important to us. We still have to invest a lot in Niš , „said the President of Serbia. Serbia has already come a long way towards EU membership and has made incredible progress and commitment in recent years and improved conditions in various sectors, said the President of the European Commission. President Vučić spoke at a press conference in Niš about the agreement reached in Brussels on the license plate dispute with Priština. Asked to comment on the latest data on average salaries and that Niš lags behind the average salaries in Serbia, Vučić said that the average salary in Niš in 2012 was 316 euros, and now it is 520 euros, which is an increase of 65% in nine years.
