Niš City Mayor Dragana Sotirovski together with her associates met with the first group of communal wardens who started working today. Niš is the first city in Serbia to introduce such a service. They will help us in the establishment of communal order, and fellow citizens will be able to report communal problems to communal wardens, who will feel socially useful and responsible, said Niš City Mayor. The task of the communal wardens is to inform the communal militia in charge of further actions about the observed communal disorder. The director of the Center for Social Work in Niš Zoran Jović said that Niš was one of the few cities that has introduced the voluntary work engagement as a form of extended social protection rights, i.e., the beneficiaries of social care who are able to work or other persons who are not in the social protection system, but have low income could have applied for the job of communal warden. The coordinator of the communal militia, Dejan Kovačević, stated that the first group consists of 16 communal wardens who have passed the training.
