The City of Niš, within the Swiss PRO Programme Enhancing Good Governance and Social Inclusion for Municipal Development is implementing the project Strengthening Mechanisms for Gender Equality in the Nišava District. Niš Deputy Mayor Dušica Davidović said at the press conference that the general goal of the project was to contribute to the improvement of operational capacities and local mechanisms for gender equality, to actively deal with gender equality policies and gender issues in the community by educating members in the Nišava administrative district. The project includes the training for members of local mechanisms for gender equality in the City of Niš, including city municipalities in three areas: basic principles of good governance, gender equality and gender policies and the basics of project writing and project cycle management, said Deputy Mayor Davidović thanking the project promoters for recognizing Niš as a place for the implementation of the program. She spoke about the results of the City of Niš in the field of gender equality, the formation of a network of gender equality gathering Niš City MPs and MPs in the city municipalities regardless of political affiliation, the initiative of the City of Nis to form such networks in all municipalities of Nisava administrative district, on cooperation with the cities and municipalities of Republika Srpska on the gender equality program. Deputy Mayor Davidović pointed out that Niš was among the first cities to accept the Istanbul Convention, which established principles in the fight against violence against women and domestic violence.
