About Free Public Transportation for Pensioners, Rescheduling of Debts for for Utility Services

About 2,300 pensioners over the age of 70 will be able to get free public transportation again from February 1st, a right they lost due to the increase in their pensions, as the decision was made at today’s session of the City of Niš City Council. All pensioners older than 70 who have the pension less than 28,960 dinars will continue to exercise the right to free city transportation, as Niš City Mayor Dragana Sotirovski pointed out and noted that these indicators were also confirmation that pensions were increasing. Earlier, that limit for this subsidy was 26,547 dinars. Citizens who have difficulties in paying utility bills will be able to repay their debts in installments from February 1 by signing an agreement with public utility Company for joint payment. The maximum number of installments is 60, the minimum monthly amount in repayment is 1,000 dinars. Those who pay their debt in full will have their interest written off. The City Council adopted the proposal of the Detailed Regulation Plan for the village of Jasenovik, which creates better living conditions, construction of infrastructure and legalization of facilities.

The participation of the City of Niš in the national project “Open Data for Sustainable Development” was adopted at the session, which will open the entire set of data concerning the work of the city administration. Niš was chosen as one of the cities that in the previous period provided access to the largest number of data on matters within the competence of local self-government units. Deputy Mayor Dušica Davidović denied certain media reports that personal assistants would be left without their compensation for work in January. Personal assistants regularly received their compensation last year, and it would be continued this year, she stated and underlined that this service, as well as the service of personal companions, would be provided without delay. She said that more than 30 million dinars were allocated from the budget for the soup kitchen service for 2022, and that the City Branch of Red Cross Organization will donate another 12 million dinars. The continuity of meal preparation and distribution of groceries for weekends and holidays for the socially disadvantaged will not be questioned, said Deputy Mayor Dušica Davidović.
