A Permanent Solution for the Shelter for Adults and the Elderly

The city space in Devete Brigade Street has been adapted and equipped for the shelter for the adults and the elderly who need care and support during the winter months and in cases of  emergency situations. During the tour of the shelter, which will work within the Mara Institution, whose team already has experience in providing this type of assistance, I was convinced that the space was rationally used, said Nis Mayor Dragana Sotirovski, who visited the shelter with Deputy Dušica Davidović and Mara Institution management. The city applied and received funds from the Ministry of Justice for equipping a shelter where 12 people can stay at the same time, the Mayor noted. According to the records of the Niš Center for Social Work St. Sava and the Administration for Social Affairs, 11 people currently need accommodation in the shelter, said Deputy Mayor Dušica Davidović. They are not homeless. They have their own houses or apartments, but due to their financial or health condition, they cannot stay there on their own, she said and pointed out that Nis has no homeless people. The director of the Mara Institution, Miloš Randjelović, said that all epidemiological measures would be applied in the shelter immediately before accommodation and contact with other users.
