Within the project “Exceptional Women of Serbia”, the Embassy of the Netherlands in cooperation with the Center for Women’s Studies, Cultural Center GRAD and local self-governments in Serbia invites all interested street art artists to participate in creating murals dedicated to the most important women of the 20th and 21st century. The goal of the project is to pay tribute to exceptional women, to introduce young generations to heroines and the deeds they left behind through their work and activities.
The project will provide material and fees for artists. It is possible to apply for several murals, but one artist can be selected for only one mural. The application deadline is January 30, 2022, and the creation of the mural is planned for February and March.
To apply, you need to send the CV in English, an illustration of previous work and a sketch for the proposed mural. Applications should be sent to following e-mail address: nlmurali@gradbeograd.eu.

The mural dedicated to Ms. Jovanka Bončić Katerinić will be painted in Niš. Jovanka Bončić Katerinić was born in Niš in 1887 and died in Belgrade in 1966. She is the first woman architect in the history of Germany to obtain an engineering degree. Jovanka Bončić is the author of several architectural design works. She designed the the buildings of the Teacher’s School (the building of the Queen Maria Women’s Teachers’ School) and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Serbian capital. Her works include the famous Banski dvor in Banja Luka, as well as part of the spa bath in Banja Koviljača. She participated in the construction of the building of the Faculty of Law in Belgrade, the hospital in Despotovac and the gymnasium in Smederevo, as well as several primary school buildings in Serbia.
