In the last two years 260 barriers which made difficult for people with disabilities to move have been removed in Niš. The construction of ramps in City Municipality Palilula in recent days is just a continuation of taking measures and implementing projects of the City of Nis, the goal of which is to make it easier for people with disabilities to move around. With the help of the Directorate for City Development we are improving the infrastructure for easier movement of people with disabilities. Project entitled One Easy Kilometer covered all the important and frequent intersections almost in every part of the city. In a large number of locations, paths have been completed to facilitate the movement of visually impaired people. In cooperation with associations of persons with disabilities, works are planned in places where ramps and paths have not been completed. The City of Niš finances the work of associations of persons with disabilities, as well as veterans’ and disabled people’s associations, finances the services of personal assistants and personal companions, the service of help in the house, bears the costs of public transport, finances the stay of children with disabilities. The City of Niš continues to, in cooperation with associations of persons with disabilities, plan new activities that should facilitate their movement and make all places in the city equally accessible to all citizens.
