It is very important for the City of Niš that we have as few beggar children on the streets as possible. Through On the Way to Drop in Shelter Project we motivate biological parents not to send their children to streets but to the Roma Cultural Center, said Niš City Mayor Dragana Sotirovski during a tour of the center where the project is being implemented. It is nice to see that children who did not start school yet know the letters and numbers. I received beautiful drawings from the children at the Roma Cultural Center, said Mayor Sotirovski.

According to her, this way of introducing children and not only Roma children to the system means checking whether they are registered in the registry books, whether they have received regular vaccines, whether they attend school regularly, whether their parents need help. Deputy Mayor Dušica Davidović said that the City of Niš was working on making this a permanent service within the Center for Providing Social Protection Services Mara Niš. On the Way to Drop In Shelter Project is being realized in partnership with the City of Niš, CSO Society for Development of Children and Youth Open Club and Association of Roma Flower Heart from Niš.
