The exhibition Return of the General: 145 Years since the Arrival of Russian Volunteers in Serbia, authored by prof. Dr. Alexei Timofeyev, ws opened in the Pavilion at the Fortress.The exhibition shows the common Serbian-Russian history and the role of Russian volunteers in the liberation of Serbia from the Ottoman Empire in the Serbian-Turkish wars in the second half of the 19th century, which was followed by the recognition of Serbian independence at the Berlin Congress. The exhibition contains illustrations, photographs, maps, documents from the personal archive of General M. G. Chernyayev, the leader of the Russian volunteer movement, which are kept in the Department of Written Sources of the State Historical Museum in Moscow. It would be very useful for students to visit the exhibition, because I am sure that they will find those interesting things that may not be in the textbooks and they will be able to learn more about Count Raevski according to whom L.N. Tolstoy created the character of Vronsky, said Niš City Mayor Dragana Sotirovski, on the occasion of opening the exhibition. We will work with the Embassy of the Russian Federation and the Russian House in Belgrade on marking and protecting monuments that testify to the historical and fraternal connection between our two peoples and our states, she pointed out.



The organizers of the exhibition are the City of Niš, the Gallery of Contemporary Fine Arts, the National Museum in Niš in cooperation with the Embassy of the Russian Federation and the Russian House in Belgrade, as well as the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. The opening of the exhibition was attended by the President of the City Assembly Boban Džunić, Member of Niš City Council Nenad Stanković, members of the city municipalities, representatives of the Serbian-Russian Humanitarian Center and members of the Association of Serbian-Russian Friendship in Niš.
