At the reception for businessmen from Niš in the City Hall the awards of the City of Niš and the Office for Local Economic Development “Holy Emperor Constantine and Empress Helen” were presented for achieved business results and for outstanding contribution to local economic development. The highest recognition for the contribution to local economic development was given to the Airport Constantine the Great as a part of the Airports of Serbia Company. In the category of socially responsible companies the award went to the company Milk House, the largest employer is the company Leoni, the most successful small company is Peaksel, medium-sized company Put-inženjering, and among the largest the most successful is Philip Morris Operation – Niš. The largest exporter in 2020 was the company Johnson Electric and the most successful beginner in business is the company Carsync. The awards were presented to the businessmen by Niš City Mayor Dragana Sotirovski and the Director of the Office for Local Economic Development Dušan Radivojević.
Mayor Sotirovski thanked the businessmen for the results achieved in the extremely difficult times caused by the pandemic and the declared emergency situation in 2020. You managed to maintain production and not lay off, the economy is a pillar of Niš, said Mayor Sotirovski and stated that since 2015, the number of unemployed in the city has decreased by 17,000 people. The business sector has shown the ability to survive in the conditions of Covid and achieve remarkable results, said Radivojević and explained that the awards were given for the previous year for which there were complete data on the business operations of companies. On behalf of the Airports of Serbia Company, the winner of the most important award, the director Mihajlo Zdravković spoke and thanked the city. After a record year the pandemic disrupted our business, but we did not give up, he said. Thanks to the support of the Government of Serbia and the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, we continue to invest. I expect that in 2023, we will travel from the airport in Niš from the new terminal building, said Mihajlović.
