Digital Expedition in Niš

The Digital Expedition Caravan, launched at the initiative of the Cabinet of the Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabić, arrived in Niš with the aim of introducing citizens to key digital skills, electronic services, e-commerce, basics of digital security and literacy, as well as other benefits offered by digital space and enable new technologies. The digital expedition is supported by the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veterans’ and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications and the Office of IT and eGovernment in partnership with the New Literacy Program jointly implemented by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Propulsion as well as the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). State Secretary at the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veterans’ and Social Affairs Miodrag Kapor said that the age in which we lived was the age of information. The state of Serbia is taking huge steps to provide conditions for the application of digital platforms with the idea of making life easier and better for every citizen, to shorten processes and provide significant savings in time and financial resources, Kapor pointed out.

Niš Deputy Mayor Dušica Davidović welcoming the participants of the caravan and educators, expressed her belief that in the coming period there would be more and more citizens who used electronic communication with state bodies and local self-government bodies. She also warned about the dangers that lurk the youngest from social networks and the importance of digital literacy of parents who need to be educated to recognize side effects. The director of the New Literacy Program Darko Soković pointed out that the complex digital and media environment has made everyone a kind of medium. We all have a decisive influence on how the information digital space is shaped, said Soković and warned of the responsibility of each individual in that space. The Digital Expedition Caravan helps all citizens to find their way in the information digital space, Soković mentioned. The educator of the National Contact Center for Child Safety on the Internet, Emina Beković, said that their task was to educate children and parents on how to properly use digital technologies, how to recognize risks and what protection measures they could take.
