THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE LIBERATION IN FIRST WORLD WAR

The 102nd anniversary of the liberation of the city in the First World War was marked by laying flower wreaths at the Monument to the Liberators at Niš central square. The wreaths were laid by Niš City Mayor Dragana Sotirovski, with the Deputy Mayor Dušica Davidović and the President of the Niš City Assembly Boban Džunić. Flower wreaths were also laid by the delegations of the Serbian Army, Nišava Administrative District, Police Administration in Niš, Alliance of Reserve Military Officers, the representatives of the Russian-Serbian Humanitarian Center, Association Circle of Serbian Sisters, delegations of the city municipalities of Palilula and Niška Banja, Association of Macedonians “Vardar Niš”, the representatives of Niš associations for nurturing traditions of liberation wars. Niš was liberated on October 12, 1918, when units of the First Serbian Army led by Duke Petar Bojović marched into the city. From July 1914 to October 1915 Niš was the war capital, the seat of the Government and the National Assembly of Serbia.
