LOCAL ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION PLAN (LEAP)

Olive branch 2001.

Awarded to City of Niš

For the first adopted LEAP

in the Republic of Serbia

Local Environmental Action plan (LEAP) is the first example of Agenda 21 localization in the area of ecology and environment in the Republic of Serbia, developed in Niš in 2001.

LEAP of Niš City is a winner of a prestigious award Olive Branch in 2001, awarded by environmental magazine "Waiting for the Wind" of Radio Belgrade 2 for major contribution in preserving, protection and improvement of the environment on the territory of Serbia.

"Document Local Environmental Action Plan of Municipality of Niš, developed during 2000/2001 is aimed to presenting local strategy for protection and improvement of environment and to assisting in solution of incurred conflict environmental projects on local level. That is why this LEAP primarily draws attention to those "black spots"- problems that a local self-government could, even at this very moment, with minor investments and interventions in shorter time interval, overcome, remove controversial inheritance from previous years, eliminate, as much as it can, current environmental deterioration, byways and misapprehensions. To reduce citizens' frustrations piled up in previous years because of improper concern for nature and misuses in living space.

Project was done in cooperation with municipal and city institutions without whose previous investigations and researches, identification of priority problems of environment on the level of local community would not be done successfully..."
