City Development Strategy

NIŠ CITY STRATEGY FOR SAFETY

By the signing of MoU between the City of Nis and Development Alternatives Inc. (DAI), Implementing Agency of Preparedness, Planning and Economic Security Program (PPES), the City Strategy for Safety development was started in April 2009.

This strategic document is expected to improve disaster management capacity of the City and its five constituent municipalities and to enhance the safety of its citizens on an ongoing basis.The Strategy will, amongst other, include risk assessment, safety standards and plan of communication, coordination betwen all relevant actors and a short-term action plan.

The Strategy for Safety has four specific goals: economic, environmental, social safety and reacting in the case of emergency.

The City of Nis is the first city in Serbia that will have such a document developed. After the Strategy adoption by the Nis City Assembly, the implementation of the various projects, which are to be determined by the annex, is anticipated, as well as many other projects which directly result from the specific goals and actions defined by this document.

The document creation is financed by USAID, and the task of the document writing is assigned to the Faculty for occupational safety in cooperation with the delegated Working team numbering 40 members.

According to the planed agenda the Strategy should be adopted by the half of 2010 at latest.

CITY DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY

This Document is the result of a group work which sees the engagement of the City of Niš, the City Development Council, the Working Group and the Team of Local Consultants, in the process of formulation of the City Development Strategy carried out with the technical support of UN-HABITAT United Nations Human Settlements Programme and the technical assistance of ERVET the specialized Development Agency of the Emilia Romagna Region in Italy.

NIŠ CITY HOUSING STRATEGY

Having in mind the importance of the local housing policies, the City of Niš developed Niš City Housing Strategy as its basic strategic document for the formulation, planning, budgeting and implementing of the housing policies. Taking into consideration the broader territorial context, this strategic document has been prepared in accordance with the national, regional and EU policies and it provides framework for the access to national, regional and European financial organisations.
