2006 - 2009

  • Balkans Primary Health Care Policy Project is the latest contribution of the Canadian Government through the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) to the development of health care systems in Serbia. It contributes to CIDA’s overall health programming goal in the Balkans is to support the achievement of responsive, accountable and gender sensitive national health care systems, thus improving health status. The primary objective of CIDA’s health programming in the Balkans is to support health care policy reform by ensuring that the partner countries have the capacity to develop and implement health policies that support efficient and effective primary health care. The key partner in the implementation of this project is RS Ministry of Health.  The project beneficiaries are local self-governments, professional organizations including chambers, associations and unions of health professionals, public health Institutes, Universities and a number of selected PHC facilities.
  •  The Draft of the National Strategy for Primary Health Care services was presented at Niš Health Care Center. This strategic document should provide framework for the promotion of primary health care services for the period up to 2015.

2005

  • The City of Niš was the venue of 2nd International Conference of Canadian studies organised by the Yugoslav Association for Canadian Studies and University of Niš Faculty of Philosophy.
  • In May 2003, the City of Niš started the implementation of the project Beautiful Serbia. The project referred to temporary employment and professional training and the reconstruction of city center building facades in Niš, Belgrade and Novi Sad.  The partners in the project were RS Ministry for Labour, Employment and Social Affairs, national Employment Service, UNDP, the governments of Canada, Austria, Holland and Greece and local self-governments of Belgrade, Novi Sad and Niš.

2000

  • The Embassy of Canada in Belgrade approved the donation in the amount of 66.000 DEM for the purchase of the school classroom furniture and equipment (desks, chairs and computers) for primary and secondary schools in Niš. The school furniture was purchased from the local company EI DOO Metal Niš.
