2011
- Niš City Delegation spent two days in Vienna on a promotional tour at the invitation by Serbian Embassy in Vienna. The visit was focused on the presentation of the business opportunities in Niš to Austrian companies and entrepreneurs. Mayor held the presentation to the representatives from 40 Austrian companies. Personal involvement of the Mayor in the promotional activities of the business potentials in Niš as well as presentation of the subsidies made available by the city in order to attract new investors shows how important local economic development is for the present Niš City authorities. This visit and the presentation itself aimed at drawing attention of the potential Austrian investors to Niš and this region since so far the investments of Austrian companies have been focused on the North of Serbia.
2010
- 24.09.2010. - Representatives of the City of Niš and the City of Vienna signed the Agreement on Cooperation between relevant city departments in the area of preparation, protection, responding, recovering and mitigating natural hazards and catastrophes. The agreement envisages the exchange of experiences in the operation of city fire departments, urgent medical response services, first responding services in natural disaster situations. The experts from Vienna will work together with domestic experts to create the community's long-term strategy for all the citizens to work together to build, sustain, and improve our capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all natural disasters and hazards.
- 27.04.2010. - Vienna Crisis Management Unit delegation met with Niš City Mayor Miloš Simonović and the representatives of the Niš City crisis management team to discuss further activities on the establishment of the cooperation in the domain of reacting in extraordinary situations. The cooperation with the City of Vienna Crisis Management Unit started six years ago. The delegation from Niš visited Vienna in May last year. Mayor Simonović pointed out that the crisis management was an important part for the functioning of any big city and that Vienna model was best practices model. "The City of Niš has prepared the City Safety Strategy which defined the city as the regional center for reacting in crisis situation. I am positive that Vienna experience s going to be extremely useful for the implementation of Niš City Safety Strategy and New Law on Crisis Situation", said Mayor Simonović. Upon the adoption of the strategy by Niš City Parliament which is expected in June this year, the protocol on Cooperation will be signed with the City of Vienna and the City of Niš will apply for the membership in the Association of the Safe European Cities. Vienna delegation also visited the Niš Clinical Center Department for Emergency Medical response and Niš Police Fire Fighting Unit.
- Art director of the archeological park Carnuntum –Petronelli, Pier Bordin, took part at the Conference "DIRECTIONS AND MODALITIES OF NIS CITY INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION IN THE DOMAIN OF CULTURE. This conference is a part of the project - Developing Program Base and Promotion of Nis City Office for International Cooperation in Science, Education and Culture. First day of the Conference represented a final step prior to establishment of Nis City Office for International Cooperation in Science, Education and Culture. Its aim was to, after first internal consultations, hear opinions and suggestions from important partners outside the City- representatives of Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, cultural attachés of embassies and culture centers in Serbia, representatives of donor' community and national experts in the area of cultural policy. The second day was dedicated to presentations and exchange of experiences in the field of research, protection, valorization and promotion of cultural heritage of Constantine's cities: Trier (Germany), Arles (France), Milano (Italy), Izmit - Istanbul (Turkey), Carnuntum - Petronelli - Vienna (Austria), York (Great Britain) and Niš (Serbia).
2009
- The representatives of the City of Niš took part at the International symposium Art Carnuntum that was held in the archeological park of the town Carnuntum - Petronell, 40 km from Vienna in Austria. The delgation attended this event upon the invitation of Mr. Piero Bordin, art director of Art Carnuntum. 1700 years ago, in November, 308 A.D. the so-called "Conference at Carnuntum" took place under the leadership of the former emperor Diocletian. Then the decision was made to establish the new Tetrarchy - Rule of Four and the power over the Roman Empire was redistributed. Consequently, and within a short period of time, through the "Emperors of Carnuntum" and through the change of course 1700 years ago, an incomprehensible change took place which altered and engraved our world and our western Culture. This year symposium was the first step in establishing the international cooperation network of historical cities and places of the Emperors of Carnuntum, among which Niš has its role since one of the Carnutum Emperors was the Constantine the Great, as well as in organizing the common artistic events for the forthcoming 1700th anniversary of Christianity recognition within the international art project "Emperors of Carnuntum Who Changed the World 308-313 / 2008-2013". For the first time, the light is thrown onto the dimensions of the new order and the results of the historic events that took place at Carnuntum. This project was founded with support of the Department for Culture and Science of Lower Austria Government. The symposium was also attended by the representatives of Trier, Arles, Zaječar, Thessaloniki, Izmir, Istanbul, Rome and Milan.
- Niš City delegation went on a study tour to Vienna City Crisis Management with the aim of re-establishing cooperation in the field of responding to natural disasters and crisis situation. This cooperation between two cities was initiated in 2004. The cooperation is extended to the police firefighting departments, medical first response departments, and civil protection services.
2008
- The contract was signed between the Niš Airport, Austrian company Eyemaxx for co–financing and construction of logistic, commercial and cargo centre in Niš. 61. 300 000 Euros contract includes the construction of 135. 000 square meters of logistic, commercial and cargo facilities located next to the Constantine the Great Airport. This project includes construction of eight business facilities meant for purpose of storage, distribution and reconsolidation of merchandize and its implementation will be conducted through phases and the completion is expected within the next seven years.
2003-2005
- In May 2003, the City of Niš started the implementation of the project Beautiful Serbia. The project referred to temporary employment and professional training in Niš, Belgrade and Novi Sad. The partners in the project were RS Ministry for Labour, Employment and Social Affairs, national Employment Service, UNDP, the governments of Canada, Austria, Holland and Greece and local self-governments of Belgrade, Novi Sad and Niš. The objective of the project was to train unqualified and unemployed to perform construction works jobs and thus enable them to find jobs more easily. In January 2004 the training for painters, brisk layers and carpenters began. 81 people finished the training carried out by Open University in Niš. The target groups were unemployed people with primary school education only at the age between 18 and 40. The project also envisaged hiring small and medium sized enterprises to do the reconstruction of the city building facades and to employ the unemployed who finished the training. 11 city building facades were reconstructed in Niš. The Dutch government secured 280.000 USA dollars for the project implementation. Austrian government contributed 100.000 USA dollars while the city participated with 197.000 USA dollars.
