About us:
 The Department for Communal Affairs performs the following tasks: monitoring the performance of the communal infrastructure maintenance, periodical maintenance of the road and traffic routes, monitoring the work of winter services, monitoring the works related to the maintenance of the public hygiene, issuing ordinances for the excavation works on the public services, labeling the names of the streets, squares and settlements in the city, informing the relevant institutions about the change of the names of the streets, squares and settlements on the territory of Niš City.
 Upon the request from the applicants, the department processes, verifies and forwards the technical documentation of the periodical maintenance of the roads and traffic routes in accordance with the Law on public roads, defines the conditions and issues approvals for the excavation works on the public surfaces for communal infrastructure connections, issues the orders for the exhumations, participates in the work of the Commission for the names of the streets and corresponding changes, participates in the works of the Commission for defining the locations and types of waste disposal bins, issues the ordinances to legal and physical entities on the definition of the location and type of waste disposal bins.
The department cooperates with all relevant institutions with jurisdictions over the communal services.

Ongoing Activities:
- Verification of the technical documentation of the periodical maintenance of the roads and traffic routes – issuing ordinance on the location and types of waste disposal bins;
- Issuing permissions for excavation works on the public surfaces;
- Issuing the permissions for exhumation;
- Informing the relevant institutions and general public about the change of streets’ names;
- Monitoring and performing the labeling of the names of the streets, squares and city settlements;
- Monitoring and carrying out the procedures of the maintaining the fountains during exploitation and non-exploitation periods;
Monitoring public hygiene:
- Upon the request from the client, from the physical or legal entity, and in accordance with the Ordinance on maintaining the city clean, the department defines the type and location for the waste disposal bins.
Monitoring the performance of the communal infrastructure maintenance and maintenance of the road and traffic routes:
- Verifying technical documentation for the periodical maintenance of the road and traffic routes;
- Monitoring the works of winter services;
- Informing the relevant institutions and general public about the change of streets’ names
- Labeling the names of the streets, squares and city settlements (design and installation of the boards with the names of the streets),
- Maintaining the fountains on the territory of Nis City.
Issuing permissions for excavation works on public services:
- Upon the request from the client, from the physical or legal entity, and in accordance with Ordinance on the general conditions for city development, the department issues the permission for excavation works on public surfaces for communal infrastructure connections of the constructed objects (connections to water supply and sewerage network, heating distribution network, connection to electric energy cables, connections to phone lines, connection to gas distribution network).
Exhumation:
- Upon the request from the client, in accordance with the Ordinance of the cemetery development and maintenance, the department issues the order for the exhumation so that the remains can be transferred from one grave to another.
