The objective of joining the World League of Historical Cities is the international promotion of Niš City historic and cultural inheritance and the establishment of cooperation with other member cities.

World League of Historical Cities is international organization which gathers 78 cities from 52 countries. It was founded in 1987 and the seat of the organization is in Kyoto, Japan.

The members of this League are the cities with rich and representative history and the aim of gathering them is the promotion of historic and cultural inheritance, strengthening the links between the member cities in order to overcome racial, ethnic and religious differences in the process of bringing closer all world nations.

Recognising the historical values of our city as on of the oldest cities in the Balkans, the League invited Niš City to join this organization. The City of Niš is the first city from Serbia to affirm its history as tourism potential.
