GREAT BRITAIN
2011
- Niš has become recognizable for its intention to make education services available to every child, no matter where he or she lives whether it is the city or village. Constructing village kindergartens represents a significant improvement in equalization of living conditions in the city and in the village area. Elaine Laycock Foundation from England assisted in the construction of the kindergartens in the villages of Toponica , Donji Matejevac and Gornji Matejevac.
2009
- Representatives from the Museum in York took part at the Conference "DIRECTIONS AND MODALITIES OF NIS CITY INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION IN THE DOMAIN OF CULTURE". This conference is a part of the project - Developing Program Base and Promotion of Nis City Office for International Cooperation in Science, Education and Culture. First day of the Conference represented a final step prior to establishment of Nis City Office for International Cooperation in Science, Education and Culture. Its aim was to, after first internal consultations, hear opinions and suggestions from important partners outside the City- representatives of Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, cultural attachés of embassies and culture centers in Serbia, representatives of donor' community and national experts in the area of cultural policy. The second day was dedicated to presentations and exchange of experiences in the field of research, protection, valorization and promotion of cultural heritage of Constantine's cities: Trier (Germany), Arles (France), Milano (Italy), Izmit - Istanbul (Turkey), Carnuntum - Petronelli - Vienna (Austria), York (Great Britain) and Niš (Serbia
- Visit to Leeds City and signing of The Central & Eastern Europe Business Network (CEBN Branch Agreement) which connects companies from Great Britain with potential business partners from Central and East Europe aimed at promotion of economical, tourism, sports and cultural potentials of netted cities. It is agreed that Niš City will be coordinator of netting enterprises, business associations and local self-governments from Serbia in this organization.
- Delegation of Yorkshire District visited Niš City and presented possibilities for improvement of economical and cultural cooperation.
- Visit of Canterbury University delegation, a scientific institution willing to share its experience in numerous fields with the University in Niš and local administration, and above all in the area of agriculture and public administration.
2008
- Signed Memorandum on Cooperation with the Ministry of Work and Social Policy in the framework of the Project- "Support to Implementation of the Strategy of Development of Social Care in Serbia" which is jointly financed by the Department for International Development of Great Britain (DFID) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway. The project deals with the improvement of local and inter-municipal (regional) services of social care through improved planning, improved financing and follow up of local services of social care. Ties program is being implemented in 24 municipalities.
2003
- Exhibition of photos entitled "Yugoslav-British relation", consisting of 64 photographs that in best way illustrate historical, cultural, and economical and diplomatic relations between Serbia and Great Britain, was opened in the Public Museum in Niš. Apart from newer photographs there are also some from the period of Fist World War, when a great number of British doctors and nurses were in Yugoslavia
2000
- Delegation of district and municipal authorities from Kent visited the City of Niš and discussed possibilities of establishing cooperation with representatives of City authorities, public enterprises and private sector. This is already a second phase of cooperation between Kent and Niš, for which guests from Britain already addressed their Government and European Commission in order to realize financial aid to Niš. At this occasion they delivered assistance in computer equipment for Niš City. Cooperation is a part of the project of establishment of twinning relations of the cities from Britain and Serbia
